Tips and pitfalls
- Use two decimals in feet for casual measurements; switch to centimeters for anything that needs millimeter precision.
- Confirm whether a legacy drawing used the retired U.S. survey foot (30.48006096 cm); most modern work uses the international foot.
- When splitting feet into feet-and-inches, keep inch fractions to at least 1/8 in for carpentry.
